The only difference is that I installed two plug-ins to Final Cut Pro on my iMac, and had problems with one of them not installing properly at first attempt. I have basically the same set-up on my iMac and my older MacBook Pro, but the problem is only on my iMac. A partial solution seems to have only one app open at a time, but even that is not foolproof. I have since then upgraded from Big Sur to Monterey, but the problem has not gone away. I may be typing an e-mail, then there is a quiet "pop" audio warning, and nothing I type is entered. Since then I have had an irritating issue where I can be typing in an app, but another app seems to automatically become the active one. My late 2020 iMac had been perfect until a couple of days ago.
